As the garden grows

I can't believe I planted all this from seed. Flippin' SWEET!

The last couple of weeks have been really fun in the garden. Lots of things are finally ready to harvest. Namely, cucumbers. Lots and lots of oddly-shaped but very yummy cucumbers. I do have pictures of them somewhere, but can't seem to find the memory card that they are on...anyway, just a few of the other things we've been enjoying:

Beets

Basil (mmm...you guessed it, more pesto)

Broccoli (...and 7 hungry caterpillars)

...and this carrot from funkytown that I pulled as a taste test (not quite sugary enough, will leave them in the ground to stew another month)

...as well as a copious crop of green beans and kale. Anybody need some kale? I've already pureed and frozen a bunch of it into baby food cubes for Masha (mmm...eat up, Baby B.), and we've cooked a couple of meals with it for ourselves, but I think we will be totally kaled out pretty soon.

Last week I planted a new crop of snap peas and watermelon. The peas should come up just fine, but I'm not sure how productive the watermelon will be so late in the season. I couldn't help myself though, especially after finding the most delicious watermelon at the Coralville farmer's market - I just had to try to grow some of my own.

I love the carrot from Funkytown! That's so weird, because I happen to be from Funkytown, too! (And by "Funkytown," I mean "Iowa City")

So I ended up pulling the rest of the carrots yesterday, and it turns out they are ALL from Funkytown (and according the seed packet I actually left them in the ground a little longer than I should have...oops).
