Learning the Ropes

(click on title to read entire post and comments)

Today was my first real (non-orientation) day at work, and I'm happy to say it went relatively well! Saturday will be my first night on call, and Monday will be my first day in the clinic.

As I continue to learn the ropes around the hospital the next few days and months, I unfortunately won't have quite as much time to post to the blog. Don't give up on us, though - keep checking back, and hopefully you'll find a new post at least every month or so. You can also sign up to receive email notifications below when we post something new (scroll down to the very bottom right corner of the page).

Here are some photos from the actual ropes course that my colleagues and I took on July 31st, which happened to be the day right before their first day of clinical duties. It's a tradition for the incoming intern class to participate in a team-building ropes course as a part of orientation. You spend the day performing death-defying stunts like walking along a high wire and free falling down a zip line, and afterward you feel like you can do anything - even be a real doctor!

Katie and I climbing the Impossible Ladder of Death (okay it's not really called that, but it did look impossible - I still can't believe we made it to the top [see the first picture above])
