Friday was Masha's first full day at the daycare center. We are taking her there once per week this month to get her used to the teachers, other kids, and schedule, and to hopefully work out any problems before she starts going full time in January. I was nervous about leaving her initially (she still has significant stranger anxiety), but the teachers scooped her right up and immediately got her involved in a game with the other kids so she didn't even notice when I left. Wow! Then I had an awesome day - I did a few chores around the house that I had been meaning to do for awhile, got a massage, and then Ilya and I met in town for lunch, which we haven't done since Masha was born.
When I picked Masha up at 5, however, it became readily apparent that neither her nor the teachers' day had been quite as fun as mine. She refused to eat and drink all day, was generally fussy, didn't nap well, and within 15 minutes of arriving in the morning she had a "blowout," then pulled her escape artist routine on them while they tried to change her (which I'm sure thoroughly endeared them to cloth diapering forever). She also picked up her first daycare bug from the generous little kids in her class, which is probably just as well since I'm still able to be home with her while she's sick. Hopefully she'll catch all there is to catch this month and then will be immune to everything by the time I go back to work!

It will get better. I think it's so hard leaving your child in someone else's care, but it will get better. If you think about it, Masha doesn't really have any other way to say, "Hey, Mom. I'd really rather hang out with you today, okay?" than to refuse food and drink and be fussy and try and get poo everywhere. If you think about it, she's a smarty to express herself in effective ways! Seriously, though, hang in there! Going back to work will be hard, but it really will get easier for both of you!! Call me if you need support!!!!
Thanks, Micah!
