This week I will try to hang dry all of our laundry, both indoors and outdoors. It will be a very fair test of whether it is doable for us when I start working because I will be gone 4 days of this week for residency orientation and so will have to get all the cloth diapers washed, dried and stuffed in time to take to the babysitter each day.
Besides saving electricity, there are some extra advantages to hang-drying. Indoors, hanging your clothes to dry supposedly cools the surrounding air, which can make living without air conditioning (or with the thermostat set a few degrees higher if you do have AC) more bearable. Outdoors, the sun has a bleaching effect, so your whites get even whiter. Colors, on the other hand, may fade a bit, so it's better to hang them inside out.
Here is my makeshift outdoor clothesline. I bought two shepherd's hooks and strung a nylon rope between them.

Totally unrelated, but a rabbit ate my strawberries before I could even transplant them today. We saw the little culprit sitting right next to them looking very unapologetic (picture the stems much longer, with leaves, and berries on them).

Check out the comments section from our first challenge to see how we did!

When the weather is nice, hanging stuff to dry is kind of fun. Especially if the sun is shining and there's a breeze, it doesn't take much longer than drying in the dryer. It does take extra time to hang everything up though. I certainly won't do it all the time, but will do it more often from now on.
I absolutely love hanging laundry on the line outside and since it was a beautiful week I was able to do it for 5 of the 6 loads I had. (I actually had the 6th load out there, but then it started sprinkling and had to take them in and dry them.) I also have it nice because Jacob is most happy outside laying in the grass or in my arms so it is a lot easier for me to fold the laundry if I hang it up outside. Spencer also likes to be outside playing in his sandbox, garden or sprinkler! Yeah for beautiful weather.
